Objective: In this study, we explored factors contributing to inequalities in dementia empowerment, defined as the integration of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors, enabling individuals to engage actively in dementia prevention. Methods: We collected data via an online survey in October 2022, which included 1100 adults aged 40-69 years living in Korea. Initially, we built correlated factor and higher-order models to delineate the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors constituting dementia empowerment. Subsequently, we investigated the factors contributing to inequalities in dementia empowerment. Results: The findings showed that the knowledge-attitude-behavior model was valid and reliable for assessing dementia empowerment. Sex, age, education, and self-rated health showed statistically significant effects on the likelihood of belonging to the high dementia empowerment group, indicating inequality in empowerment across demographic groups. Conclusions: These results demonstrate the applicability of the knowledge-attitude-behavior model for assessing dementia empowerment and suggest the need for tailored education based on demographic factors, to enhance empowerment efforts. This is particularly essential among men, younger individuals, those with lower education, and individuals with poor self-rated health, to promote equitable dementia prevention efforts.
