초록

Arguing that Friday in J. M. Coetzee's Foe (1986) embodies the Lacanian real, this essay examines the significance of Friday's story, represented as a "hole in the narrative" and its variations. This hole, though unnarratable, invites us to enter the "eye"/"mouth" of the kraken, another figuration of a hole, where we can encounter the Lacanian real.
