PurposeDespite the growing importance of data and data science, no instrument has been available to measure learners' attitudes toward data science education. This study aimed to develop the Data Science Education Attitude Scale (DSEAS).Design/Methodology/ApproachScale items were generated through a review of prior studies. Reliability and validity were examined using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses with data from 330 students aged 14-24 years.FindingsThe final scale comprises 22 items across three factors-cognitive, affective, and behavioral. Using the DSEAS, students' attitudes toward a new data science education method were successfully assessed, demonstrating that such attitudes can now be measured quantitatively.ImplicationsThe scale enables diagnosis of overall attitudes, pre-post comparisons, factor-specific analyses, and group differences. These results can inform instructional design that supports more positive learning attitudes.Originality/ValueThis study provides the first validated tool for measuring learners' attitudes toward data science education.
