Purpose: This study investigates a smart-home system, focusing on the role of a platform product. Given the platform product isthe core of the smart-home system, the product bundling, including the platform product, which is platform-based, has a relativelyhigher adoption intention than non-platform-based product bundling. This study sets perceived network embeddedness, selfefficacy, and perceived risk as moderators based on issues of previous studies. Hence, we identify the moderate roles betweenplatform-based bundling and adoption intention. Research design, data, and methodology: A study demonstrate that theplatform-based product bundling has a higher adoption intention than non-platform-based product, and this study identifies themoderator’s platform-based bundling and adoption intention through students at university. Result: The finding of this studyindicates that consumers have a higher adoption intention when indicating platform-based product bundling than non-platformbased bundling. Also, perceived network embeddedness and self-efficacy serve as the moderator between platform-based productbundling and adoption intention, but the perceived risk cannot. Conclusion: This study explores the platform as an essentialcomponent in the smart-home system. It shows that platform products are very effective and efficient based on some empiricalstudies. When constituting the IoT bundling, the platform product should be considered, whether it is a focal product. Also, weshould consider network embeddedness and self-efficacy are significant variables when studying the smart-home system.
