초록

This paper introduces the IP-MDA framework, a modified version of the Mechanics-Dynamics-Aesthetics (MDA) framework designed to facilitate the production of original games based on intellectual property (IP). By incorporating established transmedia world(TMW) elements such as mythos, ethos, and topos, the IP-MDA framework enhances traditional game design principles. Using the popular Korean horror game series White Day as a case study, we demonstrate how the IP-MDA framework can address the challenges of integrating external IP into game mechanics and dynamics, while preserving the aesthetic goals of the original work. Through several iterations, the framework was tested and validated to improve how game mechanics are shaped to reflect and leverage the underlying IP. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
