Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) requires a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to implement modularity, scalability, and dynamic service deployment within the vehicle network. Scalable Service-Oriented Middleware over IP (SOME/IP), provided by the AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture (AU-TOSAR) standard, has established itself as the core protocol for this SOA implementation. However, the existing implementation, vSomeip, has been reported to exhibit lower performance compared to other middleware in terms of subscription latency. This study proposes lightweightSomeip (lwSomeip), a lightweight SOME/IP implementation, to improve real-time performance and embedded system efficiency. lwSomeip is based on the C language, eliminating unnecessary abstractions and applying direct packet processing techniques to reduce overhead. For performance evaluation, comparative experiments were conducted against the existing vSomeip using three metrics: subscription End-to-End (E2E) delay, CPU utilization, and executable binary size. Experimental results show that lwSomeip achieves performance improvements, reducing average subscription latency by 59.6%, decreasing CPU utilization by up to 50.9%, and saving binary size by up to 47.7%.
