Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived carbon-based composites have emerged as advanced active materials for electrochemical applications due to their unique porous structures, excellent structural stability, and superior catalytic activity. In this review, the various synthetic methods for preparing MOFs-derived carbon-based composites are first systematically summarized. The recent advancements in their applications for electrochemical reactions, including hydrogen evolution reaction, oxygen evolution reaction, overall water splitting, nitrogen reduction reaction, and carbon dioxide reduction reaction are then discussed. Finally, the challenges and limitations of MOFs-derived carbon-based composites in electrochemical applications are also highlighted. We anticipate that the perspectives and strategies outlined in this review will stimulate innovative approaches for the rational design of high-performance MOFs-derived carbon-based composites.
