초록
Urban regeneration projects often face challenges such as insufficient community involvement and ineffective platformsfor meaningful public participation. This study examines the potential of virtual environments, specifically metaverse platforms likeMinecraft, to encourage active resident participation in urban regeneration processes. Through a case study of the Model StreetProject in Dandora, Kenya, this research highlights how metaverse-based platforms can foster creativity, dialogue, andcollaboration among residents. The findings demonstrate that metaverse tools enhance public engagement by enabling residents to visualize urban problems, propose solutions, and interact with stakeholders in a shared virtual space. Using Minecraft as a participatory tool alloweddiverse community members to contribute to sustainable urban design solutions. Key outcomes include improved communitycohesion, increased ownership of urban projects, and the generation of practical urban solutions that reflect local needs. This study underscores the transformative role of virtual platforms in urban planning, offering valuable insights for adoptingsimilar approaches in other contexts, including Korea. By leveraging metaverse technologies, urban regeneration can achievehigher levels of sustainability, inclusivity, and democratic governance.
