초록

This study aims to examine how social capital of public housing residents varies across different types and configurations of mixed-income housing. Ordered logistic regression analyses were performed using data from the 2019 Seoul Public Housing Residents Panel Study. The empirical analyses reveal three key findings. First, public housing residents in social-mix housing complexes exhibit greater social capital than those in buy-to-rent public housing and standalone public housing complexes. Second, public housing residents living in tenure-blind configurations demonstrate greater social capital than those living in tenure-segregated configurations. Finally, while mixed-income housing developments enhance trust, they do not significantly improve social networks or norms of reciprocity of public housing residents. These findings suggest that mixed-income housing developments can enhance social capital, particularly trust, of public housing residents, potentially mitigating the issues commonly associated with public housing.HighlightsPublic housing residents in social-mix housing complexes show higher social capital than those in buy-to-rent or standalone public housing.Within social-mix housing complexes, tenure-blind configurations are associated with higher social capital than tenure-segregated configurations.Mixed-income housing improves trust, but not social networks or norms of reciprocity.
