초록
Digital transformation is fundamental to corporate growth and sustainability because it can deliver more significant impacts than incremental innovation. This study examined the influence of digital transformation on firm performance based on data from Korean manufacturing enterprises. It also investigated how innovation barriers, related to firm capability, moderate this relationship. The analysis used data from 845 firms participating in the Korea Innovation Survey (KIS). The results indicate that big data, AI, and mobile technology positively impact cost reduction, a key aspect of firm performance. Moreover, the moderation analysis reveals that overcoming innovation barriers enhances the cost reduction in digital transformation. This finding suggests that the effort to overcome innovation barriers, such as integrating capability-building policies and participating in clusters for access to external knowledge, can increase the likelihood that manufacturing firms convert digital transformation investments into tangible performance gains. This study offers a novel lens for interpreting digital transformation challenges and implications for establishing organisational strategies to enhance the success rate of digital transformation. While the evidence is rooted in Korean manufacturing, the mechanisms identified can also inform firms in other emerging economies and capability-related challenges in digital transformation.
