In response to escalating global environmental challenges, the environmental impact of business organizations is under increased scrutiny from stakeholders. This chapter delves into the field of green human resource management (green HRM), exploring its role in aligning organizational practices with environmental sustainability goals and contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The discussion traces the evolution of green HRM from isolated initiatives to systematic developments, highlighting the need for a multi-level perspective on the HRM–SDG nexus. Through a review of relevant empirical studies and theoretical perspectives, the chapter illustrates how green HRM practices can enhance organizational outcomes, employee engagement, and environmental performance. It underscores the importance of effective leadership and culture-sensitive practices using intersectional knowledge in green HRM. Our discussion culminates in outlining future research directions, including more emphasis on employee perspectives and socio-cultural factors, aligning with the evolving business landscapes, and engaging more with policymakers.
